New and Used Records is a Bay Area-based label dedicated to releasing innovative and exciting new music. In addition to supporting the indie rock community at large, N&UR seeks to foster a space for discussion regarding the current state of the music business, as well as the arts and pop culture. This is achieved through a number of blogs, podcasts, and streaming videos that we will be introducing throughout the year.

On January 1, 2006, New and Used Records launched as a music and pop culture blog. Since that day, it has continued to grow - incorporating a video series spotlighting indie acts (including the Boy Least Likely To and Howlin Rain) and into a record label in 2007. The first N&UR release was God's Boat by the Passionistas - which hit stores on June 5, 2007. Leading up to the release of God's Boat, N&UR founder Will Benham documented the band's past and present for a six-part video series. The band celebrated their debut release with a sold-out "release party" at Cafe du Nord, headlined by the album's producer, Kelley Stoltz. In August 2007, the San Francisco Bay Guardian declared the Passionistas "most likely to succeed."

Benham has since expanded N&UR to include three blogs, and recently announced the signing of a new band - Tigers Can Bite You. Tigers Can Bite You hail from Silverlake, CA, where they have been building a loyal following since 2006. The band will release the Taking and Running Away EP this summer, with their debut full-length to follow in September.

N&UR will be adding several new features to its website over the next year, as the small company continues to prove that an indie community can be about more than just music.

On Saturday, the Passionistas accepted the award for 'Most Likely to Get Injured While Filming' at the Owl Mag's 'Video Made the Radio Star' ceremony. The event was co-sponsored by Sonic Living and Live 105 and the band's winning video ("Y2K") cost less than one beer at the Mezzanine. Watch their acceptance speech...
So, a lot of Passionistas reviews have been popping up this month, including a live review on Wiretap Music, a new local music website. Jeff Bissell writes of the Passionistas' show at Bottom of the Hill, "I hadn’t planned on seeing the Passionistas but I caught their last three songs. Initially, I was repulsed by their lack of musical talent, but I dug the singer who was ranting like a boyish Mark E. Smith. It wasn’t until the last song, 'Banana,' that it finally...

You should have a bands-link here, which I think in fuzz is done by including the featured bands as band members on the label site. Maybe you will disagree with my comment on The Passionistas' site.

I love the idea of documenting the recording process from the labels perspective. Very cool idea.
